While talking to a friend at work about a paper I was writing (which became my End Times Timeline) we came across the issue of when all these things would happen. I thought to myself “I thought you’d never ask!” and answered “Most of these things are signs that lead up to Jesus’s return, but the Bible says that no one knows the day or hour when He will return. Many people have made predictinos but that is pretty dumb considering the Bible says no one will know”.
“Wouldn’t it be better if it said when Jesus would come back?”
“No, because then everyone would do nothing until the last minute!”
Think about all the problems that would occur if we knew exactly when He would come back! Like kids that know their parent will return at 8, they hold off on all the assigned chores until the last minute and because of their laziness barely get any of the chores done! We the body of Christ definitely do have some chores to do before He returns, and ebcause we don’t know when we had better get busy!
Mat 24:36 – “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
God has left it undisclosed to all but himself as to when Christ will come back to the Earth for judgment day. This is actually better for us because it could happen any minute, thus spurring us to action and urgency. Have you ever seen the bumber sticker or shirt that says “Jesus is coming, look busy!” Well it’s like that, accept that we should be busy out of obedience instead of looking busy out of fear.
“Live as though Christ died yesterday, rose from the grave today, and is coming back tomorrow.”
2 Peter 3
3 – knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,
4 – and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”
7 – But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
I have actually had an atheist friend of mine practically quote verse 4 to me as an argument against the validity of Christianity concerning Christ’s second coming! If I had known this scripture it would have been a good reply but, I hadn’t. He basically said because all this stuff is happening yet Jesus hasn’t come back, He won’t ever come back! What a weak argument. If you grow impatient in your transatlantic flight I guarantee you that just because you’ve flown for 13 hours straight that the plane will not stay in flight forever, though it will feel like it to you. We must realize that our human perception of time was created for us to operate on the physical plane of existence. Fur us time passes, for God it doesn’t. He’s the Alpha and Omega, meaning He’s at the beginning and the end at the same time! This is possible because He is outside of time being that He made time for us, He preceded it.
2 Peter 3:8 – But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
This scripture is often used by some theistic evolutionists to prove their theory that the 6 days of creation was actually 6000 years or even more! The problem is that this scripture is not a literal statement of human time converted to God time! It’s a simile, a metaphor to illustrate a spiritual principle that is unnatural to our human mind based on the paradox that exists in the statement. One day is AS a thousand years, it doesn’t say that it IS a thousand years. To God, time is a different issue than it is to us. That is how He sees the end from the beginning. He foreknows all things, all thoughts and decisions that will be made by each human, yet He does not cause them to happen because of His knowledge of them, they happen on their own. God is never late, but He’s also never early! Don’t expect Him to confine to your human schedule of convenient timing, He knows what He’s doing.
If you visit these sites you can see a list of failed predictions of when Christ would come back.
It’s clear to see that the religious man has a bad history of predictions with accompanied failures, it’s too bad these guys didn’t take to heart the simple scripture:
