Who is Satan?

Satan is the enemy of God, Christians, and Christianity as a whole yet many Christians do not understand who Satan is, they fear him as the boogie man and feel they cannot escape his hand. Satan has used ignorance to his advantage in this area. I encourage you to read through this list and check the scriptures as you compare it to your current view of Satan, let the Word wash and cleanse you of any misconceptions or religious assumptions.

Origin of

Satan was created by God -Ezekiel 28:13

Satan was perfect before he sinned -Ezekiel 28:15

Many ask in vain why did God create evil, well the answer is that God never made anything evil. God made humans and angels with the free will capacity to choose right or wrong. The evil that exists now was caused by Lucifer choosing against God (and no longer being called by his angelic name) and man’s choice to do evil. Satan was good at first but then became evil on his own doing.
Because Satan was created by God; he is still under the authority and power of God. We have been given spiritual authority over Satan as well but it’s not of our own right, but by the powerful name of Jesus that Satan and his angels must flee. No matter the darkness God is always bigger and if He’s on your side you have nothing to fear.

Fall of

Satan planned to overthrow God -Isaiah 14:13-14,

Satan sinned on his own -Ezekiel 28:15-18, 1John 3:8

Satan was sent out of heaven -Isaiah 14:12, 15, Luke 10:18, Revelation 12:9

Satan engaged in battle in heaven -Revelation 12:7-9

Satan’s sin was pride -1Timothy 3:6

So at first Satan was good, in fact he was the highest ranked angel and because of this powerful position he became prideful. He took for granted his blessings and did not remember his proper position under God. Satan wanted to do his own will instead of God’s and he wanted to be above god. Satanism as well as Atheism follows the same route – you are your own god and sovereign authority.
Because of Lucifers sin there was no place in heaven God created hell for him and his rebellious angels to dwell in. This is similar to how Adam and Eve were sent out of the Garden of Eden because of their sin. Imperfection cannot dwell with God, this is why we cannot go to heaven on our own account, we must have the righteousness of Christ on us before we enter heaven.

Image of

Satan was covered with beautiful stones -Ezekiel 28:13

Satan had timbrels and pipes made for him -Ezekiel 28:13

Satan fought as a dragon in heaven -Revelation 12:7

Satan can appear as an angel of light -2Corinthians 11:14

Satan used a serpent to deceive Eve -2Corinthians 11:3

When talking about the image of Satan first, remove from your mind any skinny red suited being with a tail and a pitchfork. Second, remember Satan is a spiritual being which are not subject to the same rules as us physical humans. Satan is seen represented or taking different forms throughout the Bible story so it is not too far fetched to believe that rebellious spiritual being have some ability to control or morph their form at will. Angels however, being obedient to God have not changed their form but are able to enter in to the physical world and interact with it tangibly. Many people have claimed divine revelation from angels, or have spoken with Mary/others who appear as beautifully shining beings. This should worry anyone who has studied the Bible because Satan knows how to appeal to our senses and grab our attention.

Satan influenced Judas to betray Jesus -John 13:2

Satan oppresses -Acts 10:38

Satan takes advantage of our sin -Ephesians 4:25-27, 1Peter 5:8, 1Corinthians 10:11

Satan opposes Christian ministry -1Thesallonians 2:18

Satan has angels under him -Revelation 12:7, 9, Matthew 25:41,

Satan has power or limited authority -Acts 26:18

Satan steals, kills and destroys -John10:10

Satan is a busy fellow, especially these days. From studying the Word we can see that he is a very real and present being, his plans are to derail the Christian, to keep the sinner from the cross, to depopulate heaven and populate hell. His will is opposite of God’s, full of confusion, hate, sin, and evil. Why? Because he is the loser and he can never win. I figure because he can’t win another fight against heaven he is trying to take us down with him, his activity surrounds corrupting the prize creation of God – mankind. There is a reason Jesus instructs us to pray for protection from him- because he is a real threat to the Christian. However, compared to the power of Christ he is no match.

Location of

Satan was in Eden -Ezekiel 28:13

Satan was on the holy mountain of God -Ezekiel 28:14

Satan kicked out of heaven -Revelation 12:9

Hell was made for Satan and his angels -Matthew 25:41

Satan came before the Lord -Job 1:6

Satan roams the Earth “to and fro” -Job1:7

Satan shall be brought down to the pit -Isaiah 14:15

Satan will be bound for 1,000 years in the Pit -Revelation 20:1-3

Satan will be released, defeated, and thrown in to the lake of fire -Revelation 20:7-10

It appears that Satan was cast down to hell after losing the fight in heaven, now taking in to consideration that hell is in the center of the Earth (either physically or spiritually) Satan and his fallen angels were sent to Earth in a sense. Clearly based on Satan’s activities he is not restrained to hell like some think he is. It is also obvious that Satan and his angels are not omnipresent, they can only be in one place at a time.
Satan was originally stationed on the mountain of God, but now is destined for the lake of fire after he is defeated in a final battle after the millennial reign. He will have gained some serious frequent flier miles!

Names of

“Satan” -Revelation 12:9, 1Chronicles 21:1, Job 1:6, Zechariah 3:1, Matthew 4:10, Luke 10:18,

“Devil” -1John 3:8, Revelation 12:9, John 8:44, Ephesians 6:11, James 4:7, 1Peter 5:8

“Dragon” -Revelation 12:4, 7, 9

“Lucifer” -Isaiah 14:12

“Serpent” -Revelation 12:9, 2Corinthians 11:3

“Evil one” -Matthew 6:13, Luke 11:4, John 17:15, 2Thessalonians 3:3

“Wicked one” -Ephesians 6:16, Matthew 13:19, 38, 1John 2:13, 3:12, 5:18,

“Accuser of the brethren” -Revelation 20:10

“Prince of the air” -Ephesians 2:2

“god of this world” -2Corinthians 4:4

“Adversary” -1Peter 5:8

“Thief” -John 10:10

These “names” of Satan are simply titles used by the authors of the New Testament to remind us of his workings and will. He is evil, he accuses, he rules this world, and he steals. Lucifer appears to be Satan’s angelic name which he is no longer called by after his fall. This is why it is only listed once. However, there are many that believe Lucifer was actually a separate entity from Satan all together.

The born again Christian has God on his side who is more powerful than the enemy. Don’t put up with the attacks of Satan, use Jesus’s name with faith against him and claim God’s power and salvation over your situations.

  1. Thanks, I just find it interesting that Jesus mentions Satan in His model prayer and “the Lord’s Prayer”, from that I conclude he is a force to be reckoned with and that Christians should be generally educated on his role in order to protect themselves. He’s very real and active therefore we should really pray proactively against his work.

Matthew 6:13 – And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

John 17:15 – “I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.

  2. Lucifer. Now Satan.

Ultimately, he is nothing more than a former angel of Heaven that is already defeated.

I have no time for him or his host. I like what the angels said to his fallen comrades in the Book of Jude:

    “The LORD rebukes you.”

That pretty much sums it up for me.

    • I totally agree, I don’t want believers o be tossed by every wind of doctrine so I law it all out intellectually but in the end the applicable side of things is – that He is just another creation of God that has fallen, that He is active today and that all we need to say is “Go”, “No”, and “The Lord rebuke you”!
      Thanks for the summary!

  3. The name Lucifer derives from the Latin term lucem ferre, bringer, or
bearer, of light.” Satan is by no means evil. Also Satan is one of many Gods not an angel. Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness. In addition, Satan has nothing to do with blood sacrifices. Deuteronomy 12:27 And thou shalt offer thy burnt offerings, the flesh and the blood, upon the altar of the LORD thy God: and the blood of thy sacrifices shall be poured out upon the altar of the LORD thy God, and thou shalt eat the flesh. Also with Cain and Able, “Jehovah” favored the BLOOD sacrifice of abel and not the fruit of Cane. Genesis 4:3-5 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering. But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. Blood sacrifices were originally for the christian God. As you can see there are hundreds of contradictions in the Bible. I wouldn’t trust who really wrote the book in the first place but one can still break it down. If your interested in at least broadening your knowledge on the subject I suggest the website http://www.exposingchristianity.com. I’m not forcing beliefs here, I’m just leaving this for the curious and interested.

    • Satan is definitely evil as he is described in the Bible.
Jhn 8:44 – “You are of [your] father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own [resources], for he is a liar and the father of it.
Mat 16:23 NKJV – But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”

Satan is an angel (Ezekiel 28:14) a created being not a god and there is only one true god.
Psa 96:5 – For all the gods of the peoples [are] idols, But the LORD made the heavens.
Mar 12:32 – So the scribe said to Him, “Well [said], Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He.
Isa 43:10 NKJV – “You [are] My witnesses,” says the LORD, “And My servant whom I have chosen, That you may know and believe Me, And understand that I [am] He. Before Me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me.
Isa 43:11 NKJV – I, [even] I, [am] the LORD, And besides Me [there is] no savior.
Isa 46:9 NKJV – Remember the former things of old, For I [am] God, and [there is] no other; [I am] God, and [there is] none like Me,

When God made man in His image and He said “us” he was referring to the trinity, his fullness in 3 parts or roles not other gods since the only thing alive at that time was Himself and His angels. And obviously there are/were no other gods to draw an image from (Isa 43:10). This is perhaps why we have a 3 part being and similar attributes as God (will and emotion and spirit)
Satan working through false religions has often brought about blood sacrifices (seen in the occolt practices and thiestic satanism). Also human sacrifices have been performed in the same of Satan or in other religions that unknowingly are inspired by Satan. When death or sacrifice happens there is often blood involved.
But yes God has also asked for blood sacrifices, “life is in the blood”. Perhaps because there was more worth in animal sacrifices than in grains and goods. Ultimately all the animal sacrifices pointed to Jesus Christ who died for our sins to offer salvation, his blood was shed for the forgiveness of sins ( and thus there is no more requirement or need for more sacrificing of animals.
Eph 1:7 – In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace
Col 1:14 – in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

Nothing of which you have written has any contradictions and there are none. If there were why would you use it as any source of spiritual information, you seem to quote from it and attempt the derive some of your beliefs from the Bible but if it’s inaccuarate and corrupt why even bother? How do you know the parts that you believe are the true parts and not the human corrupted opinion parts or the mistranslated parts?
