Being Eternity Minded

Things Above

Colossians 3:1 – If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.
Colossians 3:2 – Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

Being “Eternity minded” or “Kingdom minded” has been one of the biggest revelations for my life in Christ. It has helped me be conscious of the bigger picture of God’s plan and activity and because of this my actions have changed too.

It’s so important to take our eyes off of ourself and look around, but more importantly to look up. What is God saying about today? What is He seeing and feeling? What does He want to happen today?
It’s all too easy to get caught up by life and just focus on the temporary things around us, our bank account, our image, our stuff, our job security, or political problems. If we don’t watch it the concern of the world will slowly squeeze us dry and pry us apart from God, but only if we let it.

Mark 4:7 – “And some seed fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no crop.
Mark 4:14 – “The sower sows the word.
Mark 4:18 – “Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word,
Mark 4:19 – “and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

We Died

Colossians 3:3 – For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Colossians 3:5 – Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

Think of it this way: we were born in to our physical bodies on this planet, here we are primarily subject to our sinful tenancies. But what happens when someone dies? The body decays and comes to nothing while the spirit ascends to heaven. Similar to this picture we who have accepted Christ have died to our carnal self. So our sinful life died yet our spirit remains and is perfected by God and serves God. If we go back to sin we are bringing back from the grave that part that we left behind when we turned to Christ.

Romans 6:4 – Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Christians are not to live in a way that obeys their natural desires the moment they occur for we died to that part of our self. Now not all desires are bad of course but we need to check our motives before we act, and on the more questionable decisions go to God first instead of acting before thinking.

So when you are tempted to sin, remind yourself that “I have died to this thing, I don’t live for me anymore, I live for God”. That is being Kingdom minded because it puts your will in the backseat and God’s will in the drivers seat.

Phlippians 3:20 – For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

Eternal Reality

Do you ever imagine what the eternal result will be of your decisions? It’s kind of a scary thought, especially if you’ve been making careless decisions without considering the long term effects. So think of your relationships – what effect will you have on their eternity? Will they be able to look back and say “you loved me and helped me get closer to God” or “You were nice but you didn’t really do anything, you never told me about God”?

These are weighty questions but important ones none the less. Thinking this way helps me keep my focus on what really matters – God and His Kingdom coming to Earth (Matthew 6:10). You only have one chance at this Earthly life, don’t waste it like the unfaithful servant did, but invest your time and reap a harvest that will last an eternity.

  1. Because they are eternity minded the brethren of The Messiah are but “aliens and pilgrims while on the earth” because their “citizenship is in Heaven” and so it is that they have taken heed unto the exhortation too:

    “Love Not The World”

”For the WHOLE(not just a portion) world is under the control of the evil one”…….(I John 5:19)

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world will pass away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of The Only True GOD will abide for ever.”(IJohn2:15-17)

“If you were of the world, the world would love it’s own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said unto you, the servant is not greater than his Master. If they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept My saying, they will keep yours also.” (John15:19-20)

“Where do wars and fighting among you come from? Do they not come of your lusts that war in your members? You lust, and have not: you kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: you fight and war yet you have not, because you ask not. You ask, and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may consume it upon your lusts. You adulterers and adulteresses, don’t you know that friendship with the world is to be at enmity with The Only True GOD? Therefore whoever will be a friend of the world is the enemy of The Only True GOD.” (James 4:1-4)

“The world cannot hate you; but the world hates Me, because I testify that the works of this world are evil.” (John 7:7)” and “The Messiah gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of The Only True God, Our Father.”(Gal 1:4)

The Messiah testified: “If the world hates you know that it hated Me before it hated you.”(John 5:18) Truly, Truly, I say unto you, except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abides alone: but if it die it brings forth much fruit. He that loves his life in this world shall lose it; and he that hates his life in this world shall have it unto life eternal.” (John 12:24-25)

John testified: “Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hates you.” (I John 3:13) “ James testified, “Whoever would be a friend of this world is the enemy of GOD”(James4:4)

“Come Out of her, MY people”!

Global warming, polluted air, land and waters, toxic wastes, sexual perversion, evil inventions of destruction, greed, hate, carnal warfare, dis-ease(no-peace),,etc,, are all destructive processes that have their root in “the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life” all of which fuel the fires of mankind’s “imag”ination ;-(

“Come out from among them and be separate”!

Peace, in spite of the dis-ease(no-peace) that is of this world and it’s systems of religion, for “the WHOLE(not just a portion) world is under the control of the evil one” indeed and Truth……

Truth IS, a lie never was and is not…….

    Abide in Truth……. francis

  2. Grove,

Another great posting… I really appreciate your statement…. “So when you are tempted to sin, remind yourself that “I have died to this thing, I don’t live for me anymore, I live for God”.

I hearts desire is for all of us to do this very thing!

    Thanks.

  3. Appreciated your responding to my comment.

i believe i received your blog address in a google alert titled “citizenship is in Heaven”.

i agree with much of what you believe yet i believe The Messiah came at the time the earthly, natural realm centered in jerusalem was destroyed.

One thing proving such, apart from The Messiah’s Own Testimony, is Paul’s testimony that he “would be delivered from every evil work and be preserved unto The Heavenly Kingdom”. And a Heavenly Kingdom was established when The Messiah was taken up into The Heavens, which Paul also bore witness to when he testified that believers were “translated into The Kingdom of GOD’s Dear Son”…….

And The Messiah delivered up The Kingdom unto Our GOD and Father, just as Paul testified, when the earthly, natural realm was destroyed in approx 70Ad(according to time as kept by those of this world).

    “Thine IS The Kingdom”!

    HalleluYAH!

    Father Help! and HE does…….

    • That’s interesting, thanks for sharing. What is your view of the end times called since the 2nd coming has already happened? Also how do you deal with the events that are clearly connected to Christ’s return in the Bible which have not happened yet and did not happen in 70AD?

  4. The pic at the top portion of this blog bears witness as to why i will not enter into discussion concerning The Messiah’s “coming in the clouds” while Paul was yet alive and breathing and taken up to be with The Master forever.

Simply, trying to commune with those who attempt to live with one foot on the earth and one in Heaven leads naught but to confusion and every evil work, and especially those double-minded who build cemeteries(seminaries) and stone cold “churches” with the pagan cross of constantine proudly displayed.

What i believe concerning “The End” is posted at the blog i maintain.

    http://asimpleandspirituallife.blogspot.com/2010/10/hope-of-heaven-for-hope-which-is-laid.html

Also “The New Covenant and The New Covenant Jew”.

And in other postings as well.

Peace, in spite of the dis-ease(no-peace) that is of this wicked world and it’s systems of religion…….

    • The picture at the top of this blog is a photograph that I think is quite beautiful (even if the church and cross weren’t in it) that’s the only reason I have it up, it also may cause one to imagine the interpretation of the clouds, the tall cross, and the red glow.
Is there a scripture or historical reference that says Paul was taken up instead of dying on Earth? I’m just wondering. Thanks for posting the link to the blog I’ll read it for some answers.

  5. The pic is of another temple, with constantines cross on display, that is dedicated to ‘d’evil ruler of this wicked, evil world ;-(

“Our Father”, “The Most High”, HE “does not dwell it temples made by hands”…….

There is no scripture that testifies of Paul “dying on earth”.

Paul not only testified that he “would be delivered from every evil work and be preserved unto The Heavenly Kingdom” but that “WE(Paul inclusive) that are alive and remain shall be taken up together with them(those in The Messiah who had arisen from the dead) in the clouds, to meet The Master in the air, and so shall WE ever be with The Master.”

Thankfully “THY Kingdom” DID “Come” at that time for The Messiah then delivered up The Kingdom unto Our Father just as Paul had testified…….

And THY Kingdom IS, and ALWAYS WILL BE!

    HalleluYAH!

And soon, and very soon, Home, Home at last!

    Till then:

    Father Help! and HE does…….

  6. Grove, francis, what are the “things above” of which Paul speaks when he says to “seek those things” and “set your mind on”? I find that most people ignore the explcit teaching of scripture that God is in the sky (as is Jesus, at God’s right hand). But Paul, like all of the scripture writers clearly believe that God is a manlike deity who has a throne/chariot in the sky, surrounded by other men, also on chairs.

Do you agree? Or do you think all of the references to God’s house being in the sky are anthropomorphic?

Do you agree that God has a form, and that form is human?

    • I am no expert but my opinion on what the “things above” are is that they are heavenly things – God, the Holy Spirit, Christ, the Kingdom of Heaven, Eternity, healing, love etc. The things of God.

I partially agree, I believe God has a literal space somewhere where there are thrones, heaven, angels etc. I believe God has a form and that form is and was the human Jesus born of Mary, filled with God’s divine character and essence. God Himself made humans therefore we cannot conform the timeless uncreated God to our specifications and titles. We were made in His image, not the other way around. God may have a head, two arms, a body and two legs, but that does not mean He is human as we are human, it’s more accurate to say he is human-like, but it’s even more accurate to say we are God-like in form (made in God’s image) because He was first and we came after Him. He is the original.
What does this concept matter in the end?

And did I answer your questions satisfactorily?

    • I would say that you are pretty much on track. YHVH is the original of which ADM was the replica.

What is at stake is “scripture versus theologians” on the matter of who, what, when, where, why and how God is. To the “theologians” God is “everywhere and nowhere” while in the scriptures, he is in a very definite place, one “tower-height” above the dry land.

That this is the historic view is evidenced by the art of the centuries:

      http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&source=imghp&biw=1280&bih=899&q=sistine+chapel+ceiling&gbv=2&aq=1&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=sistine+ch&gs_rfai=

      So, kudos.

  7. All that Truly matters is Spirit(Light, Truth, Life, Love, Grace, Mercy, Peace,,,,ALL that is Truly GOOD) emanates from above!

As for Our Father, HE IS Spirit and it remains as The Messiah testified, “A Spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have”…….

    Father Help! and HE does…….

  8. The strong delusion that is pagan catholic/christian folklore has so captivated the hearts and minds of those who “love their own life in this world” that they do not even believe The Messiah when He testified that “GOD is A Spirit”!

And once again, The Messiah testified, “A Spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have”…….

    Father Help! and HE does…….
